At the end of last month, HBO announced that Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese’s new rock ’n’ roll drama will premiere on Valentine’s Day in the US. Now Sky Atlantic has confirmed the Vinyl UK premiere date has been set for mid-February as well.
Bobby Cannavale takes centre stage as a record label president back in 1970s New York. And with Winter and Scorsese reteaming after working together on Boardwalk Empire, it’s no surprise that there’s a good level of anticipation surrounding this one.
The good news for us on this side of the Atlantic is that Sky has set the Vinyl UK premiere date for just one day after it bows in the US. Sometimes we’ll have a couple of weeks to wait before shows debut here, leading to possible spoilers, but that shouldn’t be as much of a problem with Vinyl.
From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter, this new drama series is set in 1970s New York. A ride through the sex- and drug-addled music business at the dawn of punk, disco, and hip-hop, the show is seen through the eyes of a record label president, Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale, who is trying to save his company and his soul without destroying everyone in his path.
Olivia Wilde tops a great supporting cast alongside Cannavale, sharing the screen with Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, James Jagger, and Paul Ben-Victor.
Scorsese has directed the pilot from Winter’s script, as was the case with Boardwalk Empire. And among the other directors this season will be Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go), S.J. Clarkson (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Allen Coulter (The Sopranos), and Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist).
Officially, HBO hasn’t said when Game of Thrones Season 6 will premiere. But the expectation is that Vinyl will be the lead-in. In the US, the drama begins with a two-hour premiere. (No word yet if the Vinyl UK premiere date will have two back-to-back episodes as well.) The first season consists of ten episodes, so as long as nothing else airs between, we’ll hopefully be returning to Westeros in mid-April.
The Vinyl UK premiere date has officially been set for Monday, February 15th, a day after its February 14th debut in the US.
