The-Forest-UK-Release-Date-Natalie-DormerWhen the first trailer landed last month, we were expecting Jason Zada’s supernatural horror to be arriving on our shores in the spring. But Icon has moved up The Forest UK release date to February, a month ahead of schedule.

Natalie Dormer is front and centre, adding another credit alongside the likes of The Hunger Games and next year’s Patient Zero to her burgeoning theatrical credits having broken out of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Moving The Forest UK release date up from February means it will no longer have to face off against Batman v Superman, which can only be a good thing.

A supernatural thriller set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest. A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer of “Game of Thrones” and “The Hunger Games”), goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate.

Dormer shares the screen with Taylor Kinney, Yukiyoshi Ozawa, Eoin Macken, Rina Takasaki, Noriko Sakura, Yūho Yamashita, Stephanie Vogt, and James Owen.

Zada makes his feature debut as a director, having previously co-written horror The Houses October Built. David S. Goyer (Man of Steel), Nick Antosca (Hannibal), Sarah Cornwell, and Ben Ketai (30 Days of Night: Dark Days) share credit for the script. Goyer also serves as a producer with Tory Metzger (The Rover) and David Linde (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

Moving the horror out of the path of Batman v Superman is definitely a good plan, especially given Disney’s Zootropolis is also due out on our shores that weekend. But the new The Forest UK release date isn’t a slam dunk for the film. The Coen brothers’ latest film Hail, Caesar! is due out at the end of February, too, with Josh Brolin and George Clooney topping a great ensemble cast. Fox also has their own horror, The Other Side of the Door, due out that weekend, with The Walking Dead / Prison Break’s Sarah Wayne Callies in the lead. On the horror front, it will effectively be Game of Thrones vs. The Walking Dead, at least in terms of leading stars, as Natalie Dormer and Sarah Wayne Callies will be positioned opposite one another.

The Forest UK release date is now set for February 26th, 2016. It arrives in the US on January 8th.
