We are just weeks away from Tris’ return in the latest instalment in The Divergent Series. Allegiant follows on from the events of Divergent and Insurgent, and we’re expecting big things from it when it hits cinemas next month.
The first full trailer launched at the tail-end of last year, promising another action-packed adventure as Tris and co. head beyond the wall. And now we’ve got a new main theatrical poster to share, along with a handful of character posters, via Glamour.
Unfortunately for Lionsgate, that’s not the only news surrounding the franchise. Deadline reports that Robert Schwentke, who was set to direct the final instalment in the series, has exited Ascendant. There’s no bad blood between Schwentke and the studio. The director just needed a break after shooting Insurgent and Allegiant back to back. Ascendant is set to close out the franchise on June 9th, 2017, so Lionsgate will have to find someone quite soon to take Schwentke’s place.
The third installment of the blockbuster Divergent series franchise, ALLEGIANT takes Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) into a new world, far more dangerous than ever before.
After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known in order to find a peaceful solution for their embroiled city. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.
Shailene Woodley naturally reprises her leading role as Tris. She stars alongside Theo James, Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, Keiynan Lonsdale, Bill Skarsgård, and Naomi Watts.
Schwentke directs from a script by Noah Oppenheim (The Maze Runner), Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods and Kings), and Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower). They adapt the original novel by Veronica Roth.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on March 10th in the UK. It follows in the US on March 18th.
