Show-Me-a-Hero-UK-Premiere-Date-Set-for-AugustWhen the first trailer for David Simon’s anticipated mini-series launched last month, we knew HBO would be broadcasting the series in August in the US. But we weren’t sure when Sky Atlantic had set the Show Me a Hero UK premiere date for.

Now Sky Atlantic has confirmed that the Oscar Isaac-led drama will begin its run in the UK next Monday, August 17th.

In the US, the six-part mini-series is running across three straight Sunday nights. Each Sunday will air two episodes back-to-back. The Show Me a Hero UK broadcast plans, however, are set to have the show run over six weeks. We’ll be treated to just the first episode on Monday night, and will be more and more behind the US as each week passes. So if you’re hoping to steer clear of spoilers, try extra hard to stay away from social media at least on Mondays for the next few weeks.

In an America generations removed from the greatest civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the young mayor (Oscar Isaac) of a mid-sized American city is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town. His attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future.

Isaac is joined by a really promising cast, sharing the screen with Bob Balaban, Jim Belushi, Jon Bernthal, LaTanya Richardson-Jackson, Catherine Keener, Terry Kinney, Alfred Molina, Clarke Peters, and Winona Ryder.

Paul Haggis (Crash) has directed all six episodes. Simon, creator of The Wire, has penned the scripts with past collaborator William F. Zorzi (The Wire).

While it’s a bit of a shame that Sky Atlantic has opted to run only one episode each week, instead of two, you have to give them credit for building their partnership with HBO. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to watch the network’s quality programming in the UK at all. At least not until things came out on DVD and Blu-ray.

The Show Me a Hero UK slot is essentially the same as its US counterpart. It takes over on both shores from True Detective Season 2, which came to an end on Sunday/Monday.

Show Me a Hero will air two episodes a week on Sunday nights in the US from August 16th at 8 p.m. on HBO. In the UK, Sky Atlantic will broadcast one episode a week on Monday nights from August 17th at 9 p.m.
