Ed Sheeran’s platinum single Photograph is used to brilliant effect in this wonderful first trailer for Warner Bros.’ romantic comedy drama, Me Before You. Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin share the spotlight, and things are definitely looking good for its arrival this summer.
WB unveiled the first poster this week, promising the trailer would arrive later today. And along with delivering that promise, they’ve also given us a slightly different UK poster. It’s more washed out, which is a bit unfortunate, and it shows off a little more of the stunning red dress Clarke’s character wears in the trailer. (The difference in colour between the trailer thumbnail and the UK poster below will give you an idea of what I mean.)
Louisa “Lou” Clark (Clarke) lives in a quaint town in the English countryside. With no clear direction in her life, the quirky and creative 26-year-old goes from one job to the next in order to help her tight-knit family make ends meet.
Her normally cheery outlook is put to the test, however, when she faces her newest career challenge. Taking a job at the local “castle,” she becomes caregiver and companion to Will Traynor (Claflin), a wealthy young banker who became wheelchair bound in an accident two years prior, and whose whole world changed dramatically in the blink of an eye. No longer the adventurous soul he once was, the now cynical Will has all but given up. That is until Lou determines to show him that life is worth living. Embarking together on a series of adventures, both Lou and Will get more than they bargained for, and find their lives—and hearts—changing in ways neither one could have imagined.
Jenna Coleman, Charles Dance, Matthew Lewis, Janet McTeer, Vanessa Kirby, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Lily Travers, and Brendan Coyle complete the cast alongside Clarke and Claflin.
Thea Sharrock (The Hollow Crown) makes her feature debut at the helm, having spent much of her career to date directing theatrical productions. Jojo Moyes adapted her own best-selling novel for the screen.
This first trailer does a great job of setting the tone. Like another Sam Claflin-starrer, Love, Rosie, it looks like we can expect plenty of comedy mixed in with the romantic drama. But this looks to be weighted towards the latter at its heart. At least if the scoring of Photograph is to be believed.
Me Before You will be released in the US and UK on June 3rd.
