The Wachowski siblings’ Jupiter Ascending has long been one of my most anticipated films of the year. All we’ve seen from it so far suggest it has some of the most spectacular visuals we’ll see in 2015, and I’m optimistic it’s got the story and performances to match.
The epic sci-fi blockbuster heads into cinemas this weekend, and Warner Bros. has launched a pair of new TV spots and a trio of featurettes to whet our appetites.
Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.
Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis are front and centre, starring alongside Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Bae Doona, Vanessa Kirby, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and James D’Arcy.
Andy and Lana Wachowski are directing from a script they co-wrote, with frequent collaborator Grant Hill (Cloud Atlas, Sens8) producing alongside them.
Oscar winner Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost) has composed the score. And I’d place an early bet on his name coming up as another nomination for him this time next year for Best Original Score at the Oscars.
Jupiter Ascending will be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on February 6th in the US and UK.
