Oscar-winning writer-director Stephen Gaghan returns behind the camera for his first feature film since 2005’s Syriana, and the anticipation is understandably high. Matthew McConaughey leads the excellent cast for Gold, and The Weinstein Company has given it a very awards-friendly release date in the US.
The film opens stateside on Christmas Day, priming Gaghan and McConaughey for another run during awards season. As we eagerly await the first trailer to give us a good feel of the film, Vulture has launched the first poster for the dramatic thriller.
GOLD is the story of Kenny Wells (McConaughey), a modern-day prospector, hustler, and dreamer, desperate for a lucky break. Left with few options, Wells teams up with an equally luckless geologist to execute a grandiose, last-ditch effort: to find gold deep in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.
Edgar Ramírez, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Kebbell, Joshua Harto, Corey Stoll, Timothy Simons, Michael Landes, Bruce Greenwood, and Stacy Keach round out the ensemble cast.
Gaghan (Syriana, Traffic) directs from a script first penned by John Zinman and Patrick Massett (Friday Night Lights, The Blacklist). Gaghan himself did the final rewrite.
Gold is set to hit cinemas in the US on Christmas Day. No word yet on a firm UK release date, but StudioCanal has the rights for our shores. They’ll likely release it early 2017.
