Set to the tune of Zayn and Taylor Swift’s I Don’t Wanna Live Forever, Universal has released a new extended trailer for their upcoming sequel, Fifty Shades Darker. The film is of course the second instalment in a trilogy of films that began in 2015 with Fifty Shades of Grey.
Fifty Shades of Grey was the eleventh-highest-grossing film of 2015 at the global box office, which is amazing. It beat out the likes of Cinderella, The Revenant, Mad Max, Ant-Man, Kingsman, and The Good Dinosaur. So needless to say, expectations for Fifty Shades Darker are high. Universal has given it the exact same release strategy, opening over the Valentine’s weekend. So it’s got pretty much the best possible shot at success. And, to their credit, they didn’t rush it by bringing it out last year, which many a studio probably would have done.
When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan of course reprise their leading roles. Kim Basinger, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, Eric Johnson, Bella Heathcote, Jennifer Ehle, Marcia Gay Harden, Max Martini, and Rita Ora round out the ensemble cast this time around.
James Foley (House of Cards, Billions) has taken over from Sam Taylor-Johnson behind the camera. He’s directing both Darker and Freed, with Niall Leonard (Wire in the Blood) penning both scripts. The films are based on the massively best-selling series of novels by E.L. James.
Fifty Shades Darker is released in the US and UK on February 10th.
