Warner Bros. has evidently got a lot of faith in the project, giving it a prime position in the height of the Summer 2017 blockbuster season. And while we’ve got just under a year to go before it hits our screens, the studio has taken the launch of Suicide Squad in cinemas as an opportunity to unveil a brilliant first look at the project.
As is typical of Nolan’s movies, consistently shrouded in mystery, there isn’t that much about the project that we know, beyond its cast and the WWII Dunkirk time and place that its title reveals. The trailer naturally gives almost nothing away, beyond a terrifying feeling of being in the boat with those young men at the end. It’s been a while since I last saw a war film that had an impact on me even close to what this trailer did, so my anticipation is definitely on high.
Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, Harry Styles, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, and Tom Glynn-Carney lead the cast.
Nolan directs from his own script, and he also produces alongside his wife and producing partner Emma Thomas (Inception, Interstellar).
Dunkirk will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on July 21st, 2017 in the US and UK. Select screenings will also feature 35mm, 70mm, and IMAX film prints.
