Picking up where things left off at the end of Insurgent this year, Shailene Woodley and co. will be back in next year’s blockbuster sequel. Lionsgate and eOne have released the first full trailer, and eOne has also announced that the Allegiant UK release date has moved up by just over a week to an earlier slot in March.
Along with the new trailer and the announcement of the new Allegiant UK release date comes a great new poster, showing off Woodley and her co-stars rappelling down beyond the wall. They both follow on from the character posters we had this week of Tris and Four.
The third installment of the blockbuster Divergent series franchise, ALLEGIANT takes Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) into a new world, far more dangerous than ever before.
After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known in order to find a peaceful solution for their embroiled city. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.
Woodley tops another great ensemble cast, sharing the screen with Theo James, Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, Keiynan Lonsdale, Bill Skarsgård, and Naomi Watts.
Robert Schwentke (Insurgent, RED) returns to the franchise, directing from a script by Noah Oppenheim (The Maze Runner), Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods and Kings), and Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower). They adapt the original novel by Veronica Roth.
It’s a bit of a surprise to see eOne move the UK release date up. As ever, no word on what’s prompted the move. But it seems likely that Ben Wheatley’s High-Rise could be behind the decision. StudioCanal recently set that for release on March 18th, when the original Allegiant UK release date had been set for. And with Tom Hiddleston in the lead, eOne must be expecting that to do well among similar audiences to those they want to hook for the latest Divergent movie.
Its new slot sees the film open on a Thursday, giving it a one-day jump on the competition. It will now be opening alongside Kung Fu Panda 3, which will definitely give it a run for its money. But with parents like to take younger children to see the third instalment in that franchise, it should leave the YA demo free to go and see Allegiant.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant UK release date is now set for March 10th, 2016. It follows in the US on March 18th, arriving in both regular and IMAX cinemas.
